Title: The Hunger Games
Author: Suzanne Collins
Series: The Hunger Games trilogy
Genre: Dystopian
Audience: Young Adult
My Review
Rating: Four Stars
When 16-year-old Katniss's young sister, Prim, is selected as District 12's female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart Peeta, are pitted against bigger, stronger representatives, some of whom have trained for this their whole lives. , she sees it as a death sentence. But Katniss has been close to death before. For her, survival is second nature.
Wow. I totally did
not expect to love this books as much as I did! I sort of just read it just to
see what all the rage was about. Well, that and I watched the trailer and it
looked fabulous. (But seriously. I watched The Hunger Games movie and it was
horrid. Well, in the sense it was supposed to be like the books, that is. I
mean it was a cool movie and all, but the books are waaaay better. But yeah. I did still really like the movies. )
The writing style
was superb! Susanne Collins did great with the pacing so there was never a dull
moment.
I thought the
characters were amazing too. (But I still do not like Peeta. He was annoying.
Gale is way better people! TEAM GALE ALL THE WAY!) And Rue! Oh my goodness,
Rue! *hugs Rue* I also really liked Katniss as the protagonist. (I took a quiz
on “Which Hunger Games Character Are You,” and I was Katniss. *grins*)
The one thing about
this book is that, it was super
violent. The first three-fourths wasn’t actually that bad, but the last forth
was quite violent. I had kind of prepared myself for the violence though. I
mean, it is a book about children who
are chosen to fight each other to the death. It’s going to be violent.
So, yup! I already
have Catching Fire ordered. I hear it’s the best in the series. I am not
necessarily looking forward to the Love Triangle drama, but I hear Gale is
pretty sweet about it. (Another check on why Gale is better) As far as who I
would recommend this book for….. fifteen and up? Well, it really depends on
what you read.
Well, anyho. I wanted to show you guys these videos from A
YouTube Channel called Studio C. They did a song for both Katniss, Peeta, and
Gale. So, here are the links.
Katniss' Song (This one is my favorite. XD )
Gale's Song (Just keep in mind that Gale is way cooler than
this. And he is not as conceited as he is portrayed to be in this video)
Ahhh I LOVE studio c, they are so funny. I haven't read any of these books, but I will check them out... I've heard they are good.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was funny even before I had read them so...yeah. XD They are super good! It's a really great dystopian!
DeleteAnd Studio C is amazing! XD They are one of my favorite YouTubers. I've watched almost all of their videos. *ducks head at admittance*
I have almost watched them all. I love elevator fail and international relations.
DeleteOh my goodness, yes! International Relations is awesome! I think my favorites are Lobster Bisque (simply because it's so lame it's funny. And I can do a decent impersonation of the James' voice in that one) and the ones for the Hunger Games shown above. But I really like Beware of The Christmas Carolers too. XD
DeleteILOVETHESEBOOKSOHMYGOSHTHEY'RESOAMAZING! They were pretty violent, but the movie Peeta is soooo much better! Cato is sooooo cute in both movie and books.
ReplyDeletePeeta is way better in the movies, but still! Gale! He is so awesome! Why do people not like him better?
Delete*grins* Cato was pretty cute. I felt so sorry for him when he died! I guess in the books though I didn't think about if he was cute or not. He was so cruel.*whimpers* I almost wish he wouldn't have died. Even if he was one of the two villains I truly hated.
Yeeeeeeeeesss! He's like the cutest villain in the world! Why did he have to die? *sobs*
Delete*cracks up* Yes! I mean, we could make it to where the last three contestants survive! I really want Cato to live...... I can't believe I just said that. In the movie they didn't make Cato as mean though. The other girl, I forget the name of was the mean one. I think it was Glimmer.
DeleteHm. I REALLY like the movies (but, I guess I haven't read the books, so I don't have much to compare).
ReplyDeleteSorry, but I don't like Gale. Even from what my sister said about him from the books.
And I LOVE Studio C! After watching their HG videos, Gale was my favorite, but after hearing about his character....
I felt the movies did a horrid job. This was the first book to movie adaption I have watched in which I have read the books, so I like annoyed my siblings really bad while watching. (They haven't read the books either)
DeleteWhat!!!!! You didn't like Gale? *sobs* Maybe I won't like him as much in Catching Fire, but I positively loved him in THG. Also, he is the character inspiration for Kaden from the Ilyon Chroincles....
Oh my goodness! Studio C is the best! I love their YouTube!! I loved Gale's song, but they made him seem kind of conceited. *whimpers*
I haven't read the Hunger Games or seen the movies, but my sister ADORES Rue. Like, a lot. :)
ReplyDeleteRue is sooo awesome! She was one of my favorite characters in it! :D She was so Cool!
