Author: Hope Ann
Title: Song of the Sword
Series: Legend of the Light
Genre: Fantasy
Audience: --
Evrard and Roinette, twins separated at birth, are caught in a battle beyond their own limited powers. With their ability to walk in the melody realm, catching glimpses of the light and darkness underlying Aslaria, comes even more danger.
Deadly mistbenders. Writhing walls of blankness. Hateful drumbeats. As a warrior in the Melody, Evrard has seen it all. But his own ability in the melody realm pales in comparison to the Prince’s melody, the legendary prowess of past Wingmasters, and even the depth of his sister’s song.
My Review
Rating: Four point five stars
When I saw the blurb for this book on Hope Ann’s blog, I immediately wanted to read it. It's a re-telling of Repunzel, and Repuzel is like, my favorite fairy-tale. (#tangledisbetterthanfrozen) It sounded soooo awesome, and I was totally not let down in my expectations for this book!
The characters, I
very much liked. Especially the villain….. Okay, yes, I am aware you aren’t
supposed to like villains, but seriously? A Mistbender! Even the title is cool,
not to mention they are like, creepy and wear dark hoods and stuff……. *coughs* Okay,
let’s just move past the villain, and move to the protagonists. Edvard and
Roinette shared a dual point of view, and I just loved them. They were super
lovable. *huggles them* I also thought it was super cool that the author spun
off from the typical romantic relationship, to a very sweet, sibling
relationship.
The plot was very
intriguing. It had many twists that were like totally awesome. And also, I was impressed by the writing. Hope Ann’s
writing was very expressive, and flowing. And like, it was like, okay, I loved
the thing with the transporting-ishness to the Melody, and GUYS THERE IS A
SHAPESHIFTER IN THIS!!! *flails* Shapeshifting is like, one of my favorite
superpowers! (Though, I mean, I don’t know if you would call it a superpower in
here, but anyho)
My only problem is
that I was a bit confuddled by the mist, and the melody. Such as, was it a
different world or just like, an unveiling of the evil present in the world
they were already in. (Edit- this may have been explained in book one, which I have not read yet) But all in all, I immesnly enjoyed this book. Intriging, full
of awesome twists, and totally cool characters.
