The Hunger Games by Suzannne Collins Book Review

  When 16-year-old Katniss's young sister, Prim, is selected as District 12's female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart Peeta, are pitted against bigger, stronger representatives, some of whom have trained for this their whole lives. , she sees it as a death sentence. But Katniss has been close to death before. For her, survival is second nature.  

  Wow. I totally did not expect to love this books as much as I did! I sort of just read it just to see what all the rage was about. Well, that and I watched the trailer and it looked fabulous. (But seriously. I watched The Hunger Games movie and it was horrid. Well, in the sense it was supposed to be like the books, that is. I mean it was a cool movie and all, but the books are waaaay better. But yeah. I did still really like the movies. )

  The writing style was superb! Susanne Collins did great with the pacing so there was never a dull moment.

  I thought the characters were amazing too. (But I still do not like Peeta. He was annoying. Gale is way better people! TEAM GALE ALL THE WAY!) And Rue! Oh my goodness, Rue! *hugs Rue* I also really liked Katniss as the protagonist. (I took a quiz on “Which Hunger Games Character Are You,” and I was Katniss. *grins*)

   The one thing about this book is that, it was super violent. The first three-fourths wasn’t actually that bad, but the last forth was quite violent. I had kind of prepared myself for the violence though. I mean, it is a book about children who are chosen to fight each other to the death. It’s going to be violent.

  So, yup! I already have Catching Fire ordered. I hear it’s the best in the series. I am not necessarily looking forward to the Love Triangle drama, but I hear Gale is pretty sweet about it. (Another check on why Gale is better) As far as who I would recommend this book for….. fifteen and up? Well, it really depends on what you read.

    It all started one day when I got a phone call. I was the lucky winner of a dragon from Ilyon! Just kidding. It’s not that cool, but it did begin with a phone call. My brother, my sister and I were all watching the Avengers Assemble when the phone rang. It was my cousin, and he informed me that he and my uncle were going to a church about two hours from our house to be extras in a film. I was asked if I wished to come along, and of course I did.

   There was a lot of waiting, but it was so cool! I stood within a foot of the lady that played Ms. Claire in The War Room. I was going to say hi, but right when I got up the nerve, she was called on set. There was also some people from the cast crew of Grace Unplugged.

  So, if you ever find yourself watching Extraordinary put on by Liberty University, and see a girl in a plaid shirt and denim skirt, that’s me. J

Dreamtreaders by Wayne Thomas Batson Book Review

Genre- Fantasy

                                                     Rating: Two Point Five Stars

   Fourteen-year-old Archer Keaton discovers he has the ability to enter and explore his dreams. He is a Dreamtreader, one of three selected from each generation. Their mission: to protect the waking world from the Nightmare Lord, who wreaks chaos in the Dream World. But as Archer s dreams become more dangerous and threatening, so too does his waking life.

  First act of business is the characters. The characters were pretty cool. Razz was my favorite character in the book. I loved the “fashionable squirrel”. XD I loved ever second Razz was around. Archer was cool protagonist too. He was very likable even if he did make me frustrated at his decisions some.

    I have to admit the last thirteen chapters were the best part. The plot twists and surprises revealed where super interesting. The last few chapters had a lot more things happening, whereas in the first bit everything seemed to take a while to get started.

    Dreamtreaders was a bit of a weird book. Things that happened seemed super creepy. I know this was a book about people who go into dreams to fight nightmares. But I thought it wouldn’t be that odd. I mean, there was a street where Zombies live. And while Archer was walking through a graveyard, people shot up from the graves. And Archer was chased by a band of skulls when he traveled to the Lurkers palace.

  A lot of things just didn’t make sense. By the end it was explained a bit more, but I wish I would have known more at the beginning. And also some of the creature, insect, animal thingys weren’t well explained. I mean, what are breaches? And how does one sew up a breach?  

  So far I haven’t determined if I’m going to read the next book. This book had a great ending, I’m just reluctant to read another.  It’s definitely not for a squeamish person. (I tend to be squeamish about stuff like Zombies, skeletons, and Vampires.) If you’re not squeamish on those things. You would probably like this book. It just wasn’t for me. 

The False Prince by Jennifer A. Neilsen Book Review

   Summary:

  In a discontent kingdom, civil war is brewing. To unify the divided people, Conner, a nobleman of the court, devises a cunning plan to find an impersonator of the king’s long-lost son and install him as a puppet prince. Four orphans are recruited to compete for the role, including a defiant boy named Sage. Sage knows that Conner’s motives are more than questionable, yet his life balances on a sword’s point—he must be chosen to play the prince or he will certainly be killed. But Sage’s rivals have their own agendas as well.

  My Review:                                                                  

  The False Prince was indeed a fascinating read. It was full of twists and turns, and it had me reading past lights out. *grins and looks fondly at handy flashlight* I found the story to be quite interesting! The plot was amazing. The moment I read the summary, I wanted to read it.

  Also, the setting was amazing! I love anything midevel really, and this took place in a midevel manor and I loved it. It was absolutely tops.  *grins*

  The ending was definitely my favorite part. (Well, that and page 96! *grins*) Everything seemed more clear, and a little less confusing at the end, then at the start.   

  So, why three point five stars, you ask? Let me explain. This story was told in first person, yet Sage held back on us. There were things we should have known at page twenty-one, that weren’t told to us till page two hundred and fifty-eight. In another situation, on page one hundred and thirty, Sage was fighting for an item we knew nothing about and it wasn’t explained why until the very end. I feel we should have been told why he was so persistent to have the item.

  Also, the start was a bit slow, and all the sudden, BOOM! Everything seemed to happen in a cluster. It confused me and I had to sit back and recollect everything that had just happened, and sort it out in my mind.

  Though The False Prince was full of interesting twists, they were predictable. I knew the big plot twist by page fifteen. There were only one or two that took me by surprise.

  Also, I greatly disliked Sage the first half. He was arrogant, self-absorbed, conceited and overly confident. Though it did kind of explain to a certain degree why he was so over confident, it still annoyed me. I’m hoping for some major character development in the next two books.

  Now, even though there were quite a few things I didn’t like, there were enough things I did like to keep me interested in the series. I am planning to read The Runaway King because I did like the ending of The False Prince, and am eager to see what happens.

  Hey Everyone! Welcome to my very first blog post! *overly excited squeal*

  So, I guess I should start out with telling you guys my favorite series, authors and genres. Well, my favorite series is the Ilyon Chronicles, The Blades of Acktar series, and The Out of Time Series. Making Jaye L. Knight, Tricia Mingerink, and Nadine Brandes my favorite authors.

  My favorite genre is Fantasy and Dystopian. I enjoy some Historical Fiction as well. My favorite time period being the Revolutionary War and The Great Depression.

   What to expect from this blog is mostly book reviews, probably a few writer posts, and hopefully I’ll be able to participate in launch teams and the like. :D
